Water of Life is dedicated to changing the world one village at a time. How do we do that? By partnering with local pastors to visit isolated communities and villages to offer them their own fresh water well in the name of Jesus. And the results are tremendous. Giving fresh water allows Water of Life unprecedented access into these Muslim, animist, traditional religions, and Hindu communities.
"We’re not just a humanitarian organization. We’re an evangelical organization that just happens to do water ministry.” – Roland Bergeron, Founder of Water of Life
Roland Bergeron, an engineer by trade, became interested in water missions back in 2001, when he went on his first mission trip. His heart was so stirred that he continued to participate in multiple trips to Central America. Roland knew that God was calling him to take action, and in 2003 he led a group of volunteers to found Water of Life. In 2004, Roland made the life-changing trip to Liberia, West Africa. The rest is history. Water of Life’s water ministry spread to Sierra Leone soon after. And through the workings of God and a crazy social media site called Facebook, work began in India in 2010.
No strangers to religious persecution and political controversy, our ministry partners in West Africa and India struggle daily with red tape and public outcry from local religious leaders. But the gift of fresh water is too hard to resist. The villagers rally around our drill crew and ministry partners. The Water of Life team leads evening Bible studies and spreads the love of God.
Love works every time we’ve tried. Wells are a community project, allowing the village a sense of ownership and pride in what they’ve been given, helped create, and have been instructed how to maintain. God’s story hasn’t ended yet, and Water of Life is ready to be obedient to the next chapter God has us write!
